My friend Thomas is in town, visiting Nashville not only for the first time, but the United States for the first time---surprising, because Thomas is so well-travelled. But what's really surprising is that Thomas and I have kept in touch, especially considering the fact that we only spent about 48 hours together in Bayeux, France, more than two years ago (Thomas is from Nottingham, England, and recently completed his Ph.D at the Sorbonne in Paris in philosophy).
Out of the blue, Thomas emailed me the other day to inform me that his girlfriend, Regan, is from Chattanooga, Tennessee, and that he was in the States, visiting her, and that they were headed to Nashville for the weekend. I was floored. What's even stranger is that last night I discovered that I know Regan's best friend from college (we met each other in an airport in Detroit over Thanksgiving some months back). So the world is really coming full-circle.
This planet is small, people.
We've really got to love one another.
Love, or hate, really knows how to travel.
Choose wisely.

Cam,
I've had similar things happen to me recently. In the span of one month, I met up with 2 people who I knew as a kid. We all attended a very small private school in rural Minnesota...think less than 100 students total. It's almost bizarre...but yet so fun when your life starts to come full circle. Love it!
once when I was in high school, I was at an off the beaten path cafe at 3am in madrid with two friends. there was a group of americans there that needed some help translating with the waitress. so after we helped them, we started talking. it turned out that one of the girls was from a tiny rural missouri town where my uncle grew up. her mom is good friends with my uncle's mom.
crazy.
